PRIVACY POLICY.

SHITmic.com is a static website for a free beta desktop mic-filter app. This policy explains what information is handled by the website, the browser preview, the terminal installers, and the downloadable desktop app.

SHORT VERSION

  • No account is required.
  • No email signup is required.
  • No ads, ad pixels, or cross-site behavioral advertising are used.
  • The desktop app processes microphone audio locally on your computer.
  • The browser demo keeps recorded audio in your browser and does not upload it.
  • The website uses Vercel Web Analytics for aggregate page views and basic custom events.

WHAT THIS POLICY COVERS

This policy covers SHITmic.com, the files downloaded from SHITmic.com, the browser preview on the site, and the SHITmic desktop app distributed from this site. It does not cover third-party websites, operating-system privacy settings, GitHub, Vercel, VB-Audio, BlackHole, Python, or other external services and dependencies.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT

Website and hosting data. Like most websites, SHITmic.com is served by hosting infrastructure that receives ordinary request data such as IP address, requested URL, browser or user-agent information, referrer, timestamps, and security-related log data. Vercel processes this data to deliver the site, protect the service, debug issues, and provide hosting infrastructure.

Vercel Web Analytics. The site loads Vercel Web Analytics. It records aggregate page views and basic events, including download-button clicks and terminal-command copy clicks. Analytics data may include URL, filtered query parameters, referrer, coarse geolocation, device type, operating system, browser, timestamp, and script version. Vercel states that Web Analytics is designed for aggregate statistics, does not use third-party cookies, and is not tied to an individual visitor or IP address.

Browser microphone preview. If you click INPUT in the browser preview, your browser asks for microphone permission. The preview records a short sample, stores it only in browser memory for playback, and processes it locally through the Web Audio API. SHITmic.com does not upload, save, or receive that audio. Closing or reloading the page clears the in-memory sample.

Desktop app audio. The downloadable SHITmic app processes microphone audio locally on your computer and routes it to the selected local/virtual audio device. It does not require an account, does not upload microphone audio, and does not include app telemetry. The app may create local files or markers on your computer, such as a first-run marker under ~/.shitmic/, but those stay on your device unless you choose to share them.

Installers, downloads, and update checks. Download buttons, terminal installers, and the desktop app's static version check request files from SHITmic.com, such as app packages, source files, or downloads/latest.json. Those requests may appear in normal hosting logs and aggregate analytics. The terminal installers also write app files to your selected install location and may create temporary files during installation.

Messages you send. If you contact the project through GitHub issues or another channel, we receive whatever you choose to send, such as your message, username, email address if provided, attachments, and related metadata. Do not post sensitive personal information in a public GitHub issue.

HOW WE USE INFORMATION

  • To provide the website, downloads, installers, and browser preview.
  • To understand aggregate demand for pages and downloads.
  • To diagnose site problems, broken links, abuse, and security issues.
  • To respond if you contact us.
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce site or app terms.

WHAT WE DO NOT DO

  • We do not sell personal information.
  • We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
  • We do not run third-party ad networks or retargeting pixels.
  • We do not require an account or collect payment details.
  • We do not intentionally collect microphone audio on our servers.

SHARING

We share information only with service providers and external platforms needed to operate the project, such as Vercel for hosting and analytics and GitHub if you use the GitHub repository or issues. These providers process information under their own terms and privacy notices. If you click a third-party link, such as VB-Audio Virtual Cable or BlackHole, you leave SHITmic.com and that third party's practices apply.

COOKIES, ANALYTICS, AND TRACKING

SHITmic.com does not intentionally set advertising cookies. Vercel Web Analytics is used for aggregate analytics and, according to Vercel, does not use third-party cookies. The site currently does not respond differently to browser Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals because it does not sell personal information or use cross-site behavioral advertising. You can use browser settings, content blockers, or private browsing modes to limit analytics requests; the main site and downloads should remain usable.

YOUR CHOICES

  • You can deny or revoke microphone permission for the browser preview in your browser settings.
  • You can avoid the browser preview and still download the app.
  • You can uninstall the desktop app and delete local SHITmic files, including the local first-run marker if present.
  • You can block analytics scripts with browser tools if you prefer.
  • You can contact the project to ask privacy questions or request deletion of information you directly provided.

RETENTION

Browser-preview audio is kept only in browser memory for the current page session. Desktop-app audio is not retained by SHITmic. Local app markers or files remain on your device until you remove them. Website analytics and hosting logs are retained according to Vercel's settings, policies, and operational needs. Messages you send may be retained as long as needed to respond, maintain the project, or meet legal obligations.

SECURITY

We keep the service deliberately small: no account system, no payment flow, and no server-side microphone upload feature. SHITmic.com uses HTTPS when served from the live domain. No website, app, or network connection can be guaranteed perfectly secure, so avoid sending sensitive personal information through public project channels.

CHILDREN

SHITmic is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child provided personal information, contact us so we can delete it if we have it.

REGIONAL PRIVACY RIGHTS

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of personal information, or to object to certain uses. Because SHITmic does not maintain user accounts and Vercel Web Analytics is aggregate, we may not be able to identify analytics records tied to a specific visitor. We can review and delete information you directly provided to us when we can reasonably verify the request.

CHANGES

If SHITmic's data practices change, this policy will be updated and the effective date will change. Material changes will not be applied retroactively to personal information in a way that conflicts with promises made in the earlier policy without appropriate notice or consent where required.
